CLIFTON CHENIER - The king of Zydeco![]() June 25,1925 - December 12,1987 The king of zydeco was Clifton Chenier! He played in a big old wooden shack and all people began to rock the room. Everybody loved his music and so he became more and more popular. He lived for his music and so zydeco was the most famous music at this time when he was living. Zydeco came from the french expression "les haricots" which meaning is beans. It is actually the most modern form of Creole music from Acadiana and it first appeared after the second world war. At first zydeco applied outmoded, but now many people like the music from the Cajuns more than before! The most important instrument is the accordian. You can compare zydeco with a slow waltz and two step and now it draws on pop music sources like soul, disco, rap, and even reggea. Zydeco is a kind of party music that makes people happy and makes the night hot, because people who hear zydeco normally start to dance all the night! Zydeco is a traditional music of the Cajuns. This music is a part of their lifes. It is given from generation to generation and they don't need notes to play the songs, because everybody in the familly knows them. Food and Zydeco is a important part for the cajun-family-parties. So the symbol for the cajun music is the crawfish. In the clubs where zydeco is played there are only blacks, because racism is still alive.
